candystripers at bus – by popular demand.

we must apologise for a lack of activity on here over the last couple of weeks – downtime after the show has been full of stuff.

but, it’s a good opportunity to remind you all to pop in and see the show.

bus gallery have enjoyed having us so much that they’ve asked us to stay, in a slightly reduced capacity, for another 2 weeks! which is ace.

but after that, the stripes of lonsdale will be no more.

First Print

and this is also a reminder that we have prints for sale – a piece of the candystripers for your wall. it’s only a super limited edition of 5, and there are 4 left. unframed, $250. just email us about it.

unless of course you want a whole room candystriped, well, that’s another conversation altogether.

so, pop down to bus (wed – sat, 12-6) and check out the show.

A Candystripers Project: Bus

BusOfficeDoor_IndicativeWeb

The Candystripers is a collaboration between two Melbourne artists: pop-artist Gemma Jones and installation artist Lauren Brown. Their latest project is in the entrance to Bus Gallery, an artist-run-space in the heart of Melbourne, and is the third in a series of projects based in Melbourne.

Seeking to create hyper-real spaces that walk the line between exterior and interior experiences, The Candystripers project at Bus transforms the foyer into a cross between Victorian wallpaper, an oversized minimalist painting and a helicopter landing pad.

two ladies, a lad and a laneway

on sunday, that gloriously sunny day in melbourne, the candystripers and resident garçon, benji, had their first official site visit. much fun was to be had: measuring, drawing up schematics, photographing the detail of the laneway – including human poo. what better fun could there possibly be had?

actually, we’re all such geeks that it was total fun – we gave the 50metre much love, oggled over the leica infra-red measuring beep-beep thingy, used our tailors chalk for anti-social purposes and discussed the finer points of perspectival rendering from a top-down viewpoint. trés cool.

The Candystripers at Trocadero Wallpaper 08

wallpaper 08 at trocadero closed today. tomorrow, we’re back there, with our rollers and acrylic paint (not enamel, despite what the lovely boy in the hardware store suggested) to reinstate our bits of the gallery walls back to unstriped-ness. it was a cool little project and it’s always a bit sad when it comes to the end of another exhibition.

we love the troc space and are loving their new flickr site. i know i’ll be keeping a keen eye on what’s happening there from now on.

‘but what of the candystripers next?’ i hear you asking? never fear lovelies, yesterday we received our clear, ernest and official paperwork for the next stage of the unnamed public art commission. while miss jones is as cool as a cucumber about the whole thing, it was my job to have a bit of a ‘eep!’ moment. thank goodness there are two of us!

and in unrelated candystripers news, we’ve decided that each week we’re going to have a candystripers meeting, in a different cafe/restaurant/back-alley boudoir each time. and in the interest of maintaining courtesy and good bedside manner, we’ll be posting about all the cool places we meet in! yay!

last week we went to the absolutely delightful, old school pizzeria osteria house, run by joe. the gnocchi arrabiata looked so good that we both ordered it, and shared a garlic pizza. it was all absolutely mouthwatering. in fact, we were so stuffed afterwards that we had to walk the length of rathdowne st, just to do up the top button again.

Oh for a vintage striped wardrobe
